The sun is shining and smell of spring is finally in the air. You're ready for a breath of fresh air to blow through your home.
But when you look around your house, you just don't know where to start.
Let's focus in and head to the kitchen, where you do that ever important work of nourishing you and your family. Is your cutting board looking dull? Starting to literally feel a little rough around the edges?
This is your sign that it's time for a cutting board refresh.
First, wash your board with warm water and mild soap. Give it an extra good scrub to remove any stubborn food residue. Dry your board completely.
Next (and completely optional), sand your board with a piece of sandpaper or an orbital sander to remove nicks or scratches from sharp knives. If you are using a piece of sand paper, be sure to move back and forth in the direction of the wood grain
Then, apply a liberal amount of cutting board finish - we recommend this product. Coat the wood completely. If your board is especially dry, it will change to a darker color with the finish, that's a good sign! Make sure all part of the board are well coated.
Finally, let the board sit for at least 12 hours. Use a paper towel or rag to wipe off the excess finish. Then use a little elbow grease to do a final buff of the whole board.
In just a few minutes, you've sealed in the gorgeous color of your natural wood board and refreshed it for many meals to come! We craft our boards to be heirloom quality. With a little attention to refreshing them (we recommend every 6 months or as soon as you notice the color changing/board appearing dry), you'll be passing this board down to a future generation.
These steps can also be applied to any Camino charcuterie and serving boards!
